We get info about new firmware that is coming for 60D that will fix some problems with audio settings, but do you (users) have noticed any problems with sound recording in movies ?
Audio Control summary:
- Built-in microphone (mono sound), with standard 3.5mm stereo jack for external microphones
- Choice of automatic or manual recording level control for sound (in manual, the user can select from a 64-step range to maintain consistent recording levels, depending on ambient conditions). Sound recording can also be disabled completely, if the user desires.
- Built-in Wind Filter (selectable in “sound recording” menu, when in video mode); can easily be switched on or off (out-of-the-box default setting is off)

Would disabling the audio free up more bandwidth for the video? Giving a lower compression?
Or perhaps same compression allowing longer recordings?
Nop, more longer videos now… more = more expensive taxes.
Disabling the audio free up more bandwidth for the video, would be great.
The tax is only European — the rest of the world is paying for this, but only with Canon. Other companies either include the tax, or offer different firmware for different parts of the world.
And that limit is 29min 59sec, anyway, not 4GB. So even if Canon didn’t want to introduce file chaining as an upgrade for the 60D (as they have, finally, in the new 1D-X, and as every flash based camcorder has always had), they could just write longer files when you’re using exFAT as the file system.
The 60D has exFAT as a mandatory part of interchange support for SDXC cards, but it also supports it on SDHC (yeah, I tried it).
